Port of Cassis

Historic site and monument

Presentation

Nestled between the high golden cliffs of Cap Canaille and the white majesty of the Calanques, the small fishing port of Cassis symbolizes the sweetness of life in Provence.
The narrow streets of the old town center, its colorful and lively quays invite you to stroll around and make gourmet discoveries.
Sheltered by the quai des Moulin, the basin is closed on the north and west sides by a colorful alignment of old fishermen's houses which make it one of the prettiest harbors in the Mediterranean.
You can moor there on ropes, sheltered from the "Mistral", the northwest wind that quickly clears the sky of its clouds.
The Port of Cassis is a heritage around which the life of the city has been organized throughout its history, a familiar landscape that has retained all its authenticity.
The town of Cassis is nestled at the bottom of the bay that delimit the Pointe de Cacau to the west and the Soubeyranes cliffs and the Cap Canaille to the east.
The entire urbanization of the city, since its origin, has been built around a small cove, located at the mouth of a valley carved in contact with the relief that dominates the bay.
This cove has been developed into a port since Roman times and social life has developed over the centuries to the point of making the port the very heart of the city "Carsicis Portus". The city lives with the port and the port is the image of what the city is, a unique site by the framework and the animation which reigns there.
