Presentation
Discover Martigues from a new angle thanks to our nature walk on the hiking trail dedicated to military remains. Immerse yourself in the heart of a little-known historical heritage, while enjoying an exceptional natural setting.
Walk part of the loop of military remains, a marked hiking trail between the city center of Martigues and the village of La Couronne.
At the start of the trail, let yourself be guided through the wild beauty of the Mediterranean coast, between pine forests and cliffs. This easy hike will take you on the trail of history, with a total immersion in the old military installations of the Second World War. On your way, admire the bunkers, observation posts and other strategic remains that were once used to defend the region.
These works (ammunition stores, Tobruk, platforms, trenches, fire control posts, etc.) built by the German army in 1943-1944, are arranged more or less strategically on these sites. A journey into the past that will tell you the secrets of these places steeped in memory.
This historical hike in Martigues is ideal for nature lovers, history buffs and families wishing to share an enriching moment. Each stage of the route is an opportunity to discover captivating anecdotes about local history, while enjoying breathtaking panoramas of the Mediterranean.
A 4.7km route commented by Alain Croce, specialist in the history of fortifications. Accompanied by Jean-Pierre Jéhan, president of the association Histoire Mémoire Patrimoine Provence.
