The Musée Ziem invites you to take part in an exhibition focusing on Bartabas, founder of the Zingaro equestrian theatre. This exhibition invites you to discover the relationship that developed between each photographer and Bartabas. In Ferrières town centre, free admission.
The idea for an exhibition about Bartabas, founder of the Zingaro equestrian theatre, arose from the close relationship between photographers Alfonse ALT, Antoine POUPEL and Alain SAUVAN and their connection with Martigues.
Alain SAUVAN, Zingaro's first photographer, has captured moments of work and daily life, family scenes between Bartabas, his wife, their baby and their falcon.
A few spectacular shots (such as the black stallion leaping over the seated performers without having been able to get a run-up) bring the company's energy to life.
Antoine POUPEL, Zingaro's official photographer, has been Bartabas' constant companion since the 1990s. Since then, he has photographed all the company's shows, from ‘Opéra équestre’
(1991) through to 2015, bringing his own personal vision to bear through highly poetic montages of images to convey even more clearly the madness and poetry of Zingaro and the immense complicity between man and horse.
Alfonse ALT accompanied Bartabas' troupe during their show “Cabaret de l'exil” in 2021.
The meeting of these two worlds plunges us into a dreamlike world populated by animals, nature and mythology.
Alfonse ALT walks the boundaries between painting, photography and engraving, using a process invented in the mid-19th century that he has updated and named ‘Altotype’.
