Presentation
In April, Galerie La Raffinerie presents paintings by Régine Pivier-Attolini and sculptures by Varco.
Thomas Pivier, or Varco as he calls himself, grew up in Martigues, in the heart of the Venice of Provence.
Varco is a self-taught artist who creates fantastic structures from his imagination.
He hunts for all kinds of ferrous objects that he recovers in the course of his wanderings.
He takes these objects out of their everyday use and assembles them by arc welding, giving life to an original sculpture that surprises the viewer.
Sailboats, fishermen, miners, fascinating robots, insects, chimerical animals, so many surprising structures and characters often tinged with small touches of humour or poetry... His imagination knows no bounds.
Varco lives and works in Eyragues in the Bouches du Rhône...
We live in an age that is trying to get away from excessive consumption and disposability.
Varco's contribution is a return to the all-recyclable.
He recovers objects destined for landfill to give them a new life in an artistic representation that makes our environment a little more pleasant.
Régine Pivier-Attolini, painter and sculptor.
‘I have always been very fortunate to have been able to cultivate a great deal of freedom through painting, which I began with my first coloured pencils.
To paint is to give priority to the expression of sensitivity based on observation of the world around us, to extract from this lived reality the essence and the principle, the essence of the emotion, with the aim of going beyond the material and the tangible, towards a transfer of my inner world onto the canvas or into form.
I'd like everyone who comes into contact with my painting or sculpture to feel this inner impulse, which is positive, gives energy... even hope.
Creating is life and the freedom to be and to say.’
