This event promises to be the meeting place for history buffs, local (or national) culture, artists and the curious. Enjoy the European Heritage Days in Martigues. What is the theme for 2025?
The theme of this 42nd edition is ‘Architectural Heritage’, highlighting the artistic and technical achievements of architecture.
The town of Martigues is therefore offering a chance to (re)discover its history and heritage, through visits, workshops and shows, offered throughout the area, in compliance with health recommendations.
The 2025 programme is still under construction, but here's a sneak preview of what the Musée Ziem has in store for you:
Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September 2024 from 2pm, take advantage of this weekend dedicated to heritage to come and visit the museum. Experience new adventures with storytelling tours, or take to the skies with the enchanting sounds of the handpan.
As part of the "Voyages, connecting the world" exhibition, on view from 17 May to 1 October 2025.
About the exhibition:
A dialogue between paintings, drawings, posters, emerging and more contemporary photography, archaeological furniture and sketchbooks, this new presentation brings together 200 works from the museum's collections.
We'll be following in the footsteps of the artist-traveller Félix Ziem and painters such as Francis Picabia, Raoul Dufy and André Derain.
The new route also highlights lesser-known artists such as René Seyssaud and David Dellepiane, as well as works that have never been seen before or are rarely exhibited.

In 2025, the European Heritage Days will be devoted to the architectural heritage that shapes our landscapes and our cultural memory. According to the Académie française, architecture is ‘the art of constructing, arranging or decorating buildings’. This year's theme will therefore focus on the artistic and technical achievements of architecture which, over and above their functions and uses, which evolve over time, often constitute an important landmark in terms of local, national and European history, as well as our collective memory.
