This unique visit invites you to discover Martigues through the eyes of the filmmakers who chose it as a setting, while also revealing the invaluable role of the Cinémathèque Gnidzaz, guardian of filmic memory.
Go behind the scenes of the 7th art and let yourself be guided through an experience where cinema and the local area engage in an intimate dialogue.
The discovery begins at the Cinémathèque. Here, images are passed on and preserved. Films, archives, and rare documents tell another story of cinema: that of their collection, restoration, and transmission. Accounts of film shoots, anecdotes from artists, and the connections forged with Martigues bring this living heritage to life.
Then the city becomes the screen. On foot, you explore narrow streets, canals, and iconic neighborhoods, easily recognizable to the discerning eye of the film buff. Each step reveals a setting, each viewpoint evokes a scene. The visit concludes at the Tourist Office with a narrated screening of excerpts filmed on location. A special moment where the images resonate with the places visited, revealing the unique relationship between Martigues and cinema.
