Cité du Livre lies in a former Aix-en-Provence match factory that shut down in 1972 and is your go-to for culture, leisure, information and education
The two buildings, large and small matches, of this renovated industrial site cover almost 14,500m2 and make up the Cité du Livre with the Bibliothèque Méjanes (Aix's municipal library) and associations.
The main aim is to support and promote books, reading, cinema and all forms of culture.
Municipal library (public reading and heritage resources, Albert Camus Centre, Lyrical Art and Dance Video Library, local annexes, media bus).
Event spaces: La Verrière amphitheatre (meetings and shows), Galerie Zola (exhibitions), Armand Lunel room (screenings and meetings), auditorium (meetings).
Partners: Institut de l'Image, Ecritures Croisées, Cobiac, Agence régionale du livre, département Information Communication de l'IUT, Fondation Saint-John Perse and the Centre d'oralité de la langue d'oc (COLOC).
It is free to enter and use the library and its resources. Annual membership enables you to borrow documents and use introductory multimedia workshops and individual training courses. Membership is valid for one year from the date of subscription.
Disabled facilities: fully accessible for wheelchair users, the adult book room has an easy-to-see TV for the visually impaired and a reading machine. The press room has a vocal press that provides a vocal summary of the written press to the visually impaired. Two amp loops for the hard of hearing (one for people with a hearing aid and one for those without) have been installed.
