A contemporary neighbor of the amphitheater, the Théâtre Antique, still features part of its seating and orchestra. It, too, is one of the city's 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Built at the end of the first century BC and predating its neighbor, the amphitheater, by a century, the Roman theater of Arles is less well preserved today. Completely excavated in the 19th century, and restored over the years, it remains one of the city's most emblematic monuments, and one that reflects the life of Arles today.
To make the most of your visit, we recommend you purchase a pass (available from our online ticketing service), which will enable you to visit the city's various museums and monuments more economically. Guided tours, Olympic sports demonstrations and Roman animations take place during every school vacation. Cultural shows also take place from spring to late summer.
Please note that the ancient theater is not easily accessible to people with reduced mobility. It is also subject to exceptional closures during festivals and events.
