Presentation

On the outskirts of Arles, this original loop borrows the first kilometres of the road of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela and unveils numerous testimonies of farm life. Over quiet hamlets, the plain reveals cereal crops and pastures of the bulls of the Camargue. More astonishing, one will discover latest Camargue wineries and their major areas, on bottom of chain of the Alpilles.
Along the small quiet hamlets, the plain reveals the cereal crops and the pastures of the bulls of Camargue. More surprisingly, you will discover the last Camargue vineyards and their large estates, against the backdrop of the Alpilles mountain range.
From the Arles Tourist Office, turn left on the Boulevard des Lices, then right on the Rue Gambetta in the direction of Trinquetaille and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Cross the Rhône river and continue towards Saintes- Maries and Salin-de-Giraud.
At the traffic circle (be careful), take the direction of Gimeaux, route communale 108. Until Gimeaux, follow the green signs "Chemin des taureaux et de la vigne".
In the hamlet of Gimeaux, follow the signs to take the communal road 197. Once you have passed the last houses, the Camargue plain opens up to you with its wheat and rice crops and its pastures. You are on one of the paths of Saint Jacques de Compostelle. The road is narrow, but the shoulders are important. This way was indeed formerly intended for the transhumance its width allowed the passage of the large herds. These shoulders now offer pleasant places to picnic.
Go past the Mas du Bernacle, leaving it on the left. At the crossroads with the D37, turn right, then after 500 meters, turn right again towards Saliers. In Saliers, leave the church on the right, the wash house on the left and continue to the D572N.
Take it on the right for a few hundred meters. Be careful, this road is extremely busy, be very careful!
At the first crossroads, 300 meters further on, turn left on the communal road 144. In this landscape of meadows, in good weather, you can see the Alpilles mountain range to the north-east. On the right you will see the massive farm buildings of the Bühler estate. It is a beautiful example of the rural architecture of the Camargue.
The road crosses the freeway and goes through the last great Camargue vineyards.
At the crossroads with the communal road 102, take the direction of the Croix de Cazeneuve, cross the highway a second time, then follow it for a few hundred meters. On the eastern horizon, you can see the bell towers of the city of Arles.
Continue to the Clos Jourdan crossroads, then turn left in the direction of Arles, which is reached via Trinquetaille, following the same route as on the way out.
Opening period (s)All year round.
