Presentation

Half-day tourist route in the Camargue along the ponds and the mouth of the Rhône.
The Camargue is a surprising enclave, where a particular ecosystem, arid landscapes and picturesque towns are concentrated. This route begins in the heart of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and as the kilometers go by, familiar images emerge: marshes bordered by reeds, manades, herdsmen's huts and a whole population of birds. The Petit-Rhône is then crossed from the Sauvage ferry, an opportunity to approach the borders of the Gard. Here, the river creates a special atmosphere of shade and coolness. On the banks, the fresh water and the silts are factors of plant richness. The bridge of Sylvéréal leads to a road lined with rice fields and vineyards. Then the pretty road to Cacharel opens onto landscapes of ponds, tamarisk groves and sansouïres (the name given to the salt meadows composed of saladelles and salicornia).
Opening period (s)All year round.
