Village of Saint Miter les Remparts

Village perched - picturesque village
  • Saint Mitre les Remparts

It is likely that the foundation of this village, located on a rocky outcrop, dates back to the time when the neighboring town of Ugium (now Saint-Blaise) was ransacked by Saracen troops, around the 9th century. But it was only after the village of Castelveyre (built on the ruins of Ugium) had been looted and ransacked by the troops of Raymond de Turenne, lord of Baux, that the Archbishop of Arles authorized the population to protect themselves by ramparts (1395-1410) which still exist almost in their entirety and which are listed as Historic Monuments. Beautiful city portals in the North and South.
In the extension of the Irénée Sabatier, beyond rue Simiot, is a windmill from 1626.
