The famous place becomes a dance floor in summer, for the "dances in the Miiroir", milonga evenings and all dances on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Cafes and restaurants border the square.
This square offers a view of the Church of Madelaine, the house with the gendarme's hat and the statutory composition of Bourvil and Fernandel. This statutory composition is also produced by Sébastien Langloÿs as for the fisherman and the mender. It refers to the film "La Cuisine au beurre" which was shot in Martigues in 1963 with Bourvil and Fernandel. The sculptor deliberately added more chairs to invite passers-by to enter the work. On the other side of the San Sébastien canal, you can see the so-called House in the gendarme's hat, marked by its facade and its scrolled gable. Its balcony was made of wrought iron. This 17th century building serves as a restaurant in the film, changing from the name “A la vrai bouillabaisse” to “Sole normande”. Called "The Cathedral" by the Martegals, the Church of the Madeleine is the most imposing of the churches in the city. Built between 1670 and 1680, it testifies to the prosperity of the city in the 17th century and to the attachment of the inhabitants of the Island who participated in its financing. It also faces the Academia café where the birds come to nest.
