Museum Sciences and technology World of rural agricultural Arts and culture Craft/Artisanat HistoryPresentation
In the town centre lies a sometimes overlooked gem, a window onto the past: the Rétromusée. Housed in a former sheepfold, this 300m² space invites visitors to discover everyday life and traditions of days gone by.
From the moment they step inside the Rétromusée, visitors are transported to another era. This unique venue invites you on a genuine journey through time, exploring everyday life in days gone by through displays rich in detail and authenticity.
Established in 1987 thanks to a collaboration between the town of Saint-Martin-de-Crau and the Avis family, who are passionate about history and antiques, the Rétromusée is a veritable treasure trove. Each area has been carefully designed to bring to life the atmospheres, trades and skills that have characterised past centuries.
As you explore the museum, an impressive collection of tools, objects and equipment dating from the 17th century to the 1970s is revealed.
Restored with patience and meticulous care by the Avis family, these items bear witness to the richness of the local heritage and the ingenuity of successive generations.
The experience continues amongst some forty mannequins dressed in period costumes, which bring the reconstructed scenes to life. Each setting tells a story and immerses the visitor in the atmosphere of days gone by. An unmissable visit for heritage enthusiasts, the curious and anyone wishing to discover history from a vivid and captivating perspective.
