Presentation

Covering 13,000 ha in the heart of the Camargue, the Camargue National Reserve is one of the largest wetland areas in Europe.
Its vast territory over a single area, located in the towns of Arles and Saintes Maries de la Mer, is fully protected. The originality and international heritage interest of the Camargue Reserve lies in its diversity of habitats and species that occupy it (272 bird species of which 243 are of heritage interest) as well as its ecological functioning. The Camargue National Reserve is part of the network of 158 French nature reserves. The Reserve does, however, offer a substantial part of its protected land for reception and walking. Two reception areas are available at the Capelière and Gacholle Lighthouse. Here, discovery trails and exhibitions on the Camargue are found, and tips to make the most of your stay in Camargue. The Camargue is beautiful and constantly in flux. You can enjoy it in all seasons, but summer is the least conducive to nature observations. The beginning and the end of the day when the light is soft is when the wildlife is most active. Do not forget your binoculars!
