Presentation

Situated between Arles and Les Saintes Maries de la mer, in the heart of the Camargue, the museum is a gateway to this vast territory.
The island of Camargue, between the Rhône and the Mediterranean, boasts an exceptional environment, the result of the encounter between fresh and salt water and the human activities that have developed there. The vocation of the Parc de Camargue is to protect and bring to life this natural, cultural and human heritage, in order to build the future of this territory.

A museum
At the Mas du Pont de Rousty, the Parc Naturel has set up the Musée de la Camargue, a showcase for the region. Renovated in 2013 with a view to sustainable development, the sheepfold, under its original framework, offers an immersion into the Camargue of yesterday and today with the permanent exhibition "Le fil de l'eau, le fil du temps".
Historical exhibits, interactive installations, games, sound, videos and contemporary works of art invite young and old to surf between past, present and future, far from the clichés of the past.

An extension
In 2019, the Musée de la Camargue has expanded to offer visitors a larger reception area, a temporary exhibition room and new services.

A trail
The experience can be extended thanks to a path that runs along the canal and rice fields to the marshes, passing by the gardian's hut (3.5 km. Free access 7 days a week).

A cultural program
All year round, shows, screenings, debates and themed tours at the museum or on the Park's territory offer a fun and different approach to Camargue culture.

Art trails
At the start of the trail, a work by Tadashi Kawamata, Horizons, invites us to reflect on the challenges of water in the Rhône delta.
Within the Park, the Sentiers de l'Eau (Water Trails) invite visitors to get off the beaten track and see the Camargue differently, with Tadashi Kawamata's installations Décise, on the banks of the Grand Rhône in Arles, and Escale at the Grande Montlong pumping station.
