Presentation

The statuary ensemble has become an essential stop on a visit to Martigues. These are bronze sculptures representing a fishing couple in homage to the history of the town.
Bronze sculpture installed on the port of Martigues.
Created in 2010 by Sébastien Langloys. She is an early 20th century fisherman and net mower.

This is called a statutory composition. Sébastien Langloÿs is a French artist, sculptor, draftsman and medalist. He notably created the Senate Identity Medals which were given to all senators between 2011 and 2017.

Near this statutory composition, there are 3 boats each bearing the name of one of the three districts of Martigues: Ile, Jonquières and Ferrières. These 3 neighborhoods were distinct and rival fishing villages. In 1581, they united to become a single city "Martigues" which will keep the final "s" in memory of the past.

Dimension: 100 x 300 x 180 cm / 39.4 x 118.1 x 70.9 in.
Weight 900 kg / 1984.14 lbs.
