Granet Museum
Museum Fine Arts, Painting SculpturePresentation
The musée Granet’s collection has evolved over the years, swelled by the city’s acquisitions and several major bequests, including works donated by François-Marius Granet, to become what it is today - a collection of more than 12,000 works and masterpieces !
Inaugurated in 1838, the Granet Museum, recognized as a “Musée de France,” is an institution in the city of Aix-en-Provence. It offers a tour covering more than 4,000 square meters, focusing on its collection of paintings and sculptures. Nearly 750 works are on display, offering a broad overview of artistic creation from the primitives and the Renaissance to the masterpieces of modern and contemporary art from the exceptional Meyer donation. Its seventy-one works offer a dialogue between the masters of the past (Guardi, Chardin, Boudin) admired by Cezanne and the great figures of modern and contemporary art (Giacometti, Picasso, Léger, de Staël, Tal Coat, etc.).
Enriched Cezanne collections
In 2025, following the Cezanne exhibition at Jas de Bouffan, the museum's Cezanne collections were enriched with new donations and remarkable deposits. The View from Jas de Bouffan from the Meyer collection is now joined by two rooms dedicated to the Master of Aix. These rooms highlight Paul Cezanne's stylistic evolution, illustrated in particular by Waterfall, a recent donation from Marc and Edouard Larock, Bathers in Front of Mont Sainte-Victoire, on loan from the D.G. Cazeau collection, and Mont Sainte-Victoire, on loan from the Kunstmuseum in Bern, Switzerland.
The Musée Granet regularly organizes exhibitions of international scope. In addition, it develops a dynamic program of temporary exhibitions, mediations, and educational activities.
Guided tours for groups and individual adults are available for the museum's permanent collections and temporary exhibitions in French, English, German, and Spanish. Audio guides are available for rent in several languages (French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese).
Activities for children and families are offered throughout the year (guided tours and workshops). A free activity booklet about the collections is available at the museum reception desk upon request.
The Musée Granet has been awarded the Tourisme et Handicap label (motor, hearing and mental). Access for people with reduced mobility is at 18 Rue Roux-Alphéran.
