Presentation
The Fête de la mer et de la St-Pierre is a not-to-be-missed event in the fishing town of Martigues. Sardinades on Friday and Saturday, traditional oars, old-fashioned games, fishermen's mass and procession on Saturday. Then Provençal jousting on Sunday.
Friday 27 June from 8pm to 11.30pm: Sardinades with the cafe owners of the Place de la Libération (in the Ile district).
Saturday 28th June.
- 11.30am to 2.30pm: Sardinades on the Place de la Libération.
- 3.30pm: Inter-company traditional rowing challenge in front of the Town Hall. Companies, associations and groups of friends will take up the challenge of this maritime challenge. Organised by the Rameurs Vénitiens de Martigues.
- From 5pm: Ancient games with the Jeune Lance Martégale jousters on the St Sébastien canal (L'île district): cocagne mast, sack race, duck release....
- 6pm: Fishermen's mass at the church of Sainte-Marie Madeleine, in the L'île district.
- 7pm: Saint Peter's Procession.
This is followed by a procession through the streets of Martigues to pay homage to the patron saint, starting at the Madeleine church. A blessing between the two blue bridges, facing the setting sun, will make the spectacle even more magical. Saint-Pierre is a key figure in Provence and Martigues, and the ancestral symbol of a festival of the sea.
- 8pm: Unveiling of the plaque in honour of Serge Vianello.
- 8pm to 11:30pm: Sardinades on the Place de la Libération with a live band.
Sunday 29 June from 9am, Quai d'Honneur, Hôtel de Ville: Joute Provençale, Saint-Pierre tournament - 2nd round of the Provence championship.
The tournament will start at 9am with the Benjamins, Minimes, Cadets and Féminines categories. After a break for lunch and refreshments, the tournament will resume at 2pm with the Juniors and Seniors. The tournament closes with the presentation of cups.
Saturday 28th June.
