Presentation
Martigues hosts the Provence championship, offering passers-by an unusual spectacle in the heart of the town. As part of the Fête de la mer and Saint Pierre celebrations. On the town hall forecourt and quay.
In 2025, it's the 2nd round of the Provence championship.
The tournament will start with the Benjamins at 9am, followed by the Minimes, Cadets and Féminines. After a break for lunch and refreshments, the tournament resumes at 2pm with the Juniors and Seniors. The tournament closes with the presentation of cups.
Formerly known as Targo, this Provençal jousting game offers passers-by an unusual and unique spectacle in the heart of the town.
Practised from May to September, Provençal jousting is a fight on the water between two people, each on a boat, at the top of a board known in Provençal as a ‘teinteine’. The aim of the game is to throw your opponent into the water using a spear.
Each player is protected by a wooden breastplate and holds a baton in his left hand to prevent him from catching his opponent's spear.
