Presentation
Martigues fish week takes place in mid-August. A national deep-sea fishing championship followed by a fish weigh-in in front of the town hall. Dance evenings: tuna stew on Thursday and Saturday, spit-roasted pig on Friday.
One of Martigues' must-see summer events.
At the end of each day, the fishermen return to port and weigh their fish. The angler with the biggest fish at the end of the championship is the overall winner.
Finish off the evening in the harbour with a convivial meal and live music.
- Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 August: 5.30pm in front of the Town Hall for the arrival of the boats and the weighing of the fish.
- Saturday 17 August: 1/2 day of catch-up if the weather is bad.
Parade of crews, closing ceremony and prize-giving.
Dances and meals are offered over three days, from 8pm to midnight, in front of Martigues Town Hall.
Tickets available from the Martigues Tourist and Leisure Office in early August (quai des Anglais in the Ile district).
- Thursday 15 August: Giant thonade with "full rime" (4 musicians). 18 euros.
- Friday 16 August: Pig on the spit with "Les géants de la soul" (10 musicians). 19 euros.
- Saturday 17 August: Giant tuna with "Mambo italiano" (6 musicians). 18 euros.
Meal price for children under 12: 8 euros.
The reputation of these evenings is well established, and the enthusiasm of locals and tourists at this time of year means that they are eagerly awaited.
