In the heart of Martigues, the Tourist Office invites you to discover a unique place: the Aïoli Caganis agroecological farm. Here, there are no theoretical discussions. Just living soil. Concrete actions. Ecology brought to life.
Alongside Christophe, the site's passionate manager, you'll explore the foundations of permaculture: observing before acting, understanding interactions, and cooperating with nature. Every hedge, every tree, every crop interacts with its environment. Nothing is left to chance. Everything is designed to create a fertile and sustainable balance.
Beneath the foliage, bat roosts discreetly watch over the strawberry plants and vegetables. These precious allies naturally regulate insects. Further on, artichokes act as a shield against the mistral wind. Kiwis protect the lettuce by creating a beneficial microclimate. Broad beans nourish the soil before they nourish humankind. To the south, pistachio trees and the galleries dug by worms facilitate soil drainage. Here, biodiversity isn't just a concept: it's a living strategy.
Insect hotels, reptile shelters, hedgehog nests… In three years, the farm has seen the populations of certain bee and bat species double. Rare species have even found refuge on this land, a testament to a thriving ecosystem.
The visit continues with a planting workshop. With your hands in the soil, you experiment. You learn. You do. Then comes the time to share a locally sourced picnic: seasonal pan bagnat, homemade apple tart. Simple. Right. Delicious.
