Presentation
During a visit to Japan, Pinkerton marries the geisha Cio-Cio-San, whom he abandons. Banished, she waits in vain for his return. Opera in 3 acts, in Italian with surtitles. Captured at the Opéra Bastille in September 2024. At the Multiplexe le Palace in Martigues.
Staged by Robert Wilson.
Recorded at the Opéra national de Paris / Opéra Bastille on 28 September 2024.
During a temporary stay in Japan, the American Pinkerton marries a geisha, Cio-Cio-San, to pass the time pleasantly until his departure. Banished from her family and society, the young woman, who has had a son by Pinkerton, waits patiently for her husband to return, unaware that he has rebuilt his life in America.
Adapted from David Belasco's play based on a short story by John Luther Long, itself based on Pierre Loti's novel Madame Chrysanthème, Madame Butterfly touches the heart with its lush orchestration.
Far from the traditional fans or cherry blossoms, director Robert Wilson uses stylised acting and a bare space to allow the melodic lines to blossom in all their purity.Opera in three acts, presented in Italian with French subtitles.
