Musical brunch with the REBEL 13 Association and the band Rozia
Pay-what-you-wish musical brunch featuring the band Rózia, organized by the decolonial and anti-racist collective REBEL 13.
Freshly rolled to our feet, fallen from a wild shrub—"Rózia" means pomegranate, pomegranate tree, or Greek. It is a multi-vocal project that unites sound creation with *rebetiko* (Anatolian music).
Rózia is a creative and compositional project centered on *rebetiko*—specifically the Eastern branch of this repertoire, also known as *smyrneîko*.
We have chosen a mixed instrumentation comprising wind, string, and skin instruments. You will hear a lead vocal and two backing vocals, violin, clarinet, flute, bouzouki and baglama (traditional Greek instruments), guitar, and percussion—ranging from "major" instruments like the bendir and riq to "minor" ones like *ziliès* (finger cymbals), *koutalia* (spoons), bells, and trinkets.
We also incorporate audio tracks: sounds collected during travels in Greece, supplementary backing sounds, drones created through sound synthesis, and soundscapes. In our desire to transport our listeners' imaginations, we invite the voices of poets like Sappho and Ritsos to join our own, and we bring Saint-Saëns’ *Danse Macabre* and the story of Samson and Delilah into dialogue with popular romances.
