Presentation
Music fans? Brazilian music? Les fadas du Monde invite you to a concert by Bia Ferreira. Outdoors in the Cour de l'île. Free admission.
Singer, songwriter, anti-racist campaigner and leading defender of the LGBTQIA+ community worldwide, Brazilian artist Bia Ferreira defines her music as MMP (música de mulher preta), or ‘black woman's music’.
Her songs wander between R&B rhythms, soul ballads, Afrobeat, reggae grooves and Bahian padogão, serving up conscious rap and sharp flow.
Her songs are about the body, racism, homophobia, the fight for women's rights and love. Bia Ferreira came to public attention in 2017 with the track ‘Cota Não É Esmola’, which highlighted the importance of the quota system for black people's access to university.
The track racked up millions of views and listens, and even became a compulsory part of the entrance exam to the University of Brasilia.
With two albums under her belt, a nomination at the Woman in Music Awards 2018 and a high-profile performance at the WOMEX in Lisbon in 2022, the Carangola native is now playing everywhere from Brazil to Europe. And one of her dreams is coming true: that her music, with lyrics sung in Portuguese, can be heard and understood by people all over the world.
