Presentation

In 1987, Wim Vandekeybus created What the Body Does Not Remember with his company Ultima Vez. In 2026, to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary, this show, which revolutionized the world of choreography, will be presented at Les Salins in a reinvented version.
With this debut production, Wim Vandekeybus unleashed a veritable artistic storm. Accompanied by composers Thierry de Mey and Pierre Vermeersch, he received the prestigious Bessie Award in New York in 1988 for this "brutal clash of dance and music." It is not an ordinary performance but rather a raw physical experience, teetering on the razor's edge between attraction and repulsion. The ten performers move at breakneck speed, reacting instinctively to one another and to the music. What the Body Does Not Remember reveals the essence of instinctive reflexes, rooted in the pure reality of existence, and laid the foundations for Vandekeybus's singular language.

"Harsh, brutal, playful, ironic, and formidable. The adjectives seem excessively passive to describe What the Body Does Not Remember, an extraordinarily innovative dance piece." New York Times, 1987
