Presentation
Born in northern Queensland, the Dancenorth Australia company has established itself as one of the major players on the Australian choreographic scene, radiating far beyond its borders.
Rooted in the lands of the Wulgurukaba and Bindal peoples, whose living cultures it recognizes and honors, the company develops work attentive to narratives, bodies, and heritage.
Under the direction of Amber Haines and Kyle Page, the company collaborates with Australian-Japanese artist Hiromi Tango to create an immersive experience where dance, music, and visual arts interact. The performers, displaying great physical virtuosity, seem to play with the limits of movement and balance. Driven by a musical composition from the Grammy-nominated group Hiatus Kaiyote, accompanied by sound design by Byron J. Scullin, the piece unfolds a collective energy that traverses a kaleidoscopic universe of sounds, bodies, and images. Wayfinder offers a sensitive journey in connection with others and the environment. At the heart of this effervescence, the piece invites us to rediscover a shared, collective momentum.
“A masterclass on the importance of connecting with the audience.” » The Guardian Australia
