Presentation

“Open all your pores to this gem. And above all, don’t forget to breathe,” wrote the Nieuwsblad in 2014 about THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER. The critics at the time didn’t lie.
This is the show that propelled Jan Martens onto the international stage, with over a hundred performances. In 2025, Jan Martens recreated this show with a new team, and shows us that it has lost none of its power. The American photographer Philippe Halsman said: "When you ask someone to jump, their attention is mainly focused on the action of the jump and the mask falls, thus the real person appears." Jan Martens took this quote as his starting point. Subjected to a complex, mathematical, dynamic, and exhausting choreography, performed almost entirely in unison, his dancers will eventually make mistakes. It is at this moment that "the mask falls." What kind of spectator are we when, in a theater, we watch dancers suffer as if we were attending a bullfight? Powerful and dizzying!
