Presentation

HEIDI SEVESTRE: Internationally renowned glaciologist, a major voice in the fight against climate change, member of The Explorers Club, and the first recipient of the Shackleton Medal.
Dr. Heïdi Sevestre is an internationally renowned glaciologist, a prominent voice in the fight against climate change, and a member of The Explorers Club (selected for the "Explorers Club 50" – EC50, 2026 cohort, recognizing "fifty people changing the world"). Widely acknowledged for the scope of her outreach efforts, Heïdi is often described as a scientist who practices "all-terrain science communication," sharing her expertise through the media, in the field, and via books and documentaries.
In 2022, she became the inaugural recipient of the Shackleton Medal for her commitment to protecting polar regions, and in 2023, she was awarded the French *Prix du Rayonnement* (Global Outreach Award) in the environment category. In 2024, Heïdi was named a "European Young Leader" by the organization Friends of Europe, representing France.

Heïdi holds a key role within the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), a working group of the Arctic Council. She frequently leads scientific expeditions to polar and high-mountain regions, with the goal of making science more accessible and inspiring action in the face of the climate crisis.
She is the author of *Sentinelle du Climat* and *Sentinelle – voyage au cœur des glaciers* (published by HarperCollins France), as well as *Demain c’est nous* (Éditions du Faubourg). She also appears in the National Geographic series *Arctic Ascent*, alongside Alex Honnold (Nat Geo / Disney+, 2024).

Dr. Sevestre collaborates with UNESCO in the context of the International Year of Glacier Preservation and the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences. In January 2026, she completed an 80-day kite-skiing traverse of Antarctica as part of her "Under Antarctica" expedition, alongside French adventurer Matthieu Tordeur. Heidi is the first woman to have accomplished this crossing—from Thorshammer to Hercules Inlet, via the Pole of Inaccessibility and the geographic South Pole—while simultaneously collecting scientific data to better understand how Antarctica is responding to climate change.
Opening period (s)Friday 20 November 2026 between 8 pm and 9.30 pm.
