Presentation

Sarah Mordy, born to a Moroccan father and a French mother, draws inspiration from her personal history to deliver a fiction where realism and fantasy share the stage.
Why Didn't My Father Teach Me Arabic? explores how political trauma infiltrates the private sphere and is passed down from generation to generation.

Lina, 35, discovers that her father, whom she believed dead since childhood, has just passed away. Inheriting his house, she decides to go there to find an answer to her torment. A journey of discovery begins, rekindling buried memories and triggering a series of strange phenomena. Lina confronts unspoken family secrets and the wounds inherited from a past marked by French colonization and the repression that followed independence. With this moving behind-closed-doors film, Sarah Mordy encourages us to look back in order to move forward with freedom.
