Presentation
A unique and audacious story in Virginia Woolf's work, Orlando challenges the codes of patriarchy and gender identity.
In her new production, director Katia Ferreira offers a modern adaptation centered on this eponymous, marginalized character.
The novel follows the story of Orlando, a young, androgynous, and dreamy English nobleman who struggles to find his place in the patriarchal society under Queen Elizabeth I. From one journey to the next, he experiences several long sleeps during which he undergoes a metamorphosis. Each awakening is a leap through time, from the late 16th to the early 20th century. One day, Orlando wakes up in the body of a woman. Inside, nothing has changed, yet male society reflects a completely different image back to him and assigns him a completely different role. Through fluid and dynamic staging set to a live soundtrack, Katia Ferreira subtly explores the concept of gender identity through a character whose freedom seems limitless.
