Sarah Kohm, opera and theater director at the Schaubühne in Berlin, takes up the novel by Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux to deliver a poignant monologue, performed by the touching Suzanne de Baecque.

A Girl's Memory explores the memories of a 17-year-old young woman, thrown out of her provincial world in the summer of 1958, at a summer camp on the northern coast of France. The seminal and traumatic experience of her first sexual encounter is marked by violence and disinterest. On stage, actress Suzanne de Baecque brings to life this intimate and universal story, in a highly refined production by Sarah Kohm. Together, they ask: is Annie's story unique or shared by generations of women? How can we tell desire differently, free from patriarchal codes? A moving dive into the layers of memory, desire, and violence.
