The town of Martigues (municipal archives, a group of residents and the history gallery) is taking part in the national commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation.
A rich programme of events has been put together, in the spirit of the duty to remember.
During the Second World War, the Resistance took shape under the Occupation. During the landings on the coasts of Provence, it helped the Allied armies. The actors of the Liberation were the Martégaux Resistance fighters, the architects of freedom regained.
The Liberation was a defining moment: the re-establishment of democracy was not simply a return to the pre-war era, but the construction of a fairer society, with far-reaching political and societal transformations in France.
Guided tours available by prior arrangement with the local archives. Open to the general public and schools.
