Presentation

For her tenth creation, Émilie Lalande brings to the stage The King and the Bird, a jewel of animated cinema by Paul Grimault and Jacques Prévert, himself inspired by the tale The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep.
Inspired by Prévert's texts and Wojciech Kilar's music, this adaptation takes the form of a sensitive and engaging choreographic fable, accessible to all audiences.

A former soloist with Ballet Preljocaj, Émilie Lalande has developed a choreographic language based on the musicality of movement—"seeing the music and listening to the dance," in Balanchine's words—and on the richness of the interpretations offered to the spectator. She tells the story of this tyrannical king, obsessed with his power and captivated by the portrait of a shepherdess. In this performance where poetry and imagination intertwine, Émilie Lalande invites us to celebrate freedom and never give up on wonder.
