Presentation
Circus choreographer and director, Raphaëlle Boitel deploys a unique language at the crossroads of circus, dance, theatre and cinema.
Trained from childhood at the Fratellini Academy and later discovered alongside James Thierrée, she now creates works where the power of gesture and the relationships between beings compose a poetic, sensory, and intensely emotional universe.
The Fall of the Angels is a dystopian spectacle: “What would become of our world if even angels could no longer fly?” In a controlled universe, men and women, survivors of a silent, sunless world, cross paths without truly seeing one another and cling to life. On stage, Raphaëlle Boitel unfolds a vertical space, a veritable aerial playground where two worlds collide. Metal structures, a mobile Chinese pole, threads, and ropes compose a universe of tension, in perpetual transformation. Inspired by puppetry, she sketches a world where objects and beings seem bound by invisible forces. The virtuoso and sensitive bodies move within a space sculpted by light and sound, telling a fable about our humanity, our vulnerabilities, and our capacity to transform the world.
“Raphaëlle Boitel and Tristan Baudoin have created a sublime and penetrating performance, sculpted with light and smoke, where the bodies levitate on a few sparsely moving apparatus.” Sceneweb
