As fascinating as it is unstable, ice can be an object of creativity. Puppeteer Élise Vigneron and glaciologist Maurine Montagnat combine their practices to raise public awareness of environmental issues

Where the artist animates sculptures which melt in an ephemeral device, the scientist studies the deformation of ice. Their collaboration uses elements such as sculptures, carvings and curves to explore the metaphorical and aesthetic significance of ice, while exposing how its study has been indicative of the phenomenon of global warming.

This material then becomes the symbol of the fragility of everything that seemed eternal to us.
