Live from the Opéra Bastille Thursday 10 April. At her christening, Princess Aurora is granted every perfections and graces by her godmothers. The wicked Fairy Carabosse, who has forgotten to invite her to the festivities, makes a terrible prediction:

Aurore pricks her finger with a needle and dies. Fortunately, the Lilac Fairy alleviates the curse. Instead of dying, the Princess falls into a long, deep sleep that lasts a hundred years.
For Rudolf Nureyev, Sleeping Beauty, which he created at the Opéra national de Paris in 1989, represents the ‘ballet of ballets’, the perfect achievement of ‘symphonic dance’.
An enchanting spectacle, as much for the poetry of its subject as for the splendour of its production, this majestic work, carried by Tchaikovsky's luminous score, remains a jewel in the classical repertoire. Ballet in three acts and a prologue.
