Presentation

A major figure in contemporary dance, Angelin Preljocaj has been developing a body of work nourished by artistic collaborations for over forty years.
Here, he composes a diptych, creating a dialogue between an emblematic piece, originally created in 2001 to the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen, and a work driven by the electronic soundscape of Laurent Garnier.

Helikopter was born from the choreographer's artistic encounter with the vertiginous score of this string quartet playing in mid-air aboard four helicopters. By transposing this tension between instrumental virtuosity and technological vertigo onto the stage, he pays homage to Stockhausen's constant inventiveness and his ability to continually push the boundaries of creation. In counterpoint, Licht follows, a piece whose writing is more fluid and luminous, like a passage from shadow to light. Driven by the music of Laurent Garnier, considered here as an heir to Stockhausen's sonic explorations, Licht extends this lineage by opening up a sensitive and contemporary space. In this powerful diptych, Preljocaj sketches a metaphor for our times: fraught with anxieties and tensions, yet always turned towards the light.

“Helikopter / Licht, Preljocaj’s new and dazzling journey.” Télérama
