Presentation

For the first time, the large hall of Les Salins is filled with the pulse of contemporary music.
The Avignon-Provence National Orchestra, conducted by violinist Déborah Nemtanu, presents a minimalist program where sound and image are in constant dialogue.

The opening performance, Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 3, from Mishima, establishes its hypnotic rhythm, poised between tension and starkness. With Steve Reich’s Different Trains, accompanied by Bill Morrison’s film, music becomes memory: fragments of voices, repeated motifs, and archival images weave a striking narrative. Time then seems suspended with Arvo Pärt’s Festina lente, where each note emerges in an almost palpable silence. Finally, Max Richter revisits Vivaldi with The Four Seasons recomposed, accompanied by Dimitri Sterkens’s film Free Seasons: a familiar sonic texture transformed into a shifting landscape, both intimate and cinematic. A concert at the crossroads of forms, where listening becomes seeing, and seeing, sensation.
Opening period (s)Friday 11 December 2026 between 8.30 pm and 10.30 pm.
