Presentation

Offered by Astro Club M13, as part of the Fête de la Science 2024, at the Médiathèque Louis Aragon. Bookings at the Médiathèque. A unique space mission, the fruit of exemplary international collaboration. With Laurent Lamy.
The Cassini/Huygens mission is a unique space mission, the fruit of exemplary international collaboration, which has explored the giant planetary system of Saturn.
After a 7-year cruising phase, the European Huygens lander took the first in situ measurements of Titan's atmosphere in 2005, while the American Cassini orbital probe completed an orbital tour of Saturn and its moons between 2004 and 2017, at the end of which it re-entered the atmosphere.

In this talk, Laurent Lamy will review the milestones of this space epic and present a brief overview of the scientific results obtained (atmospheres, rings, moons including Titan and Enceladus, interior and magnetosphere).
Seven years after the probe's final plunge into the Kronian atmosphere, the wealth of data collected continues to fuel intense research activity.
Opening period (s)Wednesday 9 October 2024 between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm.
