Presentation
The team from the Art, History, Archaeology and Archives Department (AHAA) is offering a 30-minute visit to a building in Martigues to discover its history, its architectural details and exercise your sense of observation.
Delivered in September 1952, it was commissioned by the Ministry of Education from architects Arati, Boyer and Lestrade and engineer Prouvé.
Listed as a historic monument by order of 19 March 2001, and awarded the 20th-century heritage label by the Regional Commission for Heritage and Sites (CRPS) on 28 November 2000.
Jean Prouvé used glass and steel here. The latter is designed in folded sheet metal, forming a ‘crutch’; the lightweight components are assembled using various bolting systems with a view to mass production in a factory.
It is an example of Jean Prouvé's constructive idea, in which the technical device becomes an architectural element.
As part of the Journées nationales de l'architecture (National Architecture Days), the aim is to reveal the wealth of outstanding contemporary architecture wherever it is found, to tell the story of the built environment, to awaken artistic curiosity and sensibility, and to promote the cultural, scientific, technical and social contribution of architecture.
The architectural reading will be followed by a workshop at 2pm.
