Théâtre de l'Oeuvre
Cultural Entertainment TheaterPresentation
The Théâtre de l'Œuvre, a place for sharing cultures, in strong interaction with its territory, offers workshops, participative shows, shared meals, open stages, off-site activities... Most of its events are free.
The work is not only a beautiful Italian-style hall, but an entire building, with fascinating dressing rooms where the Lacydon spring flows, a woodworking, sewing and mechanical workshop, three rehearsal rooms, a floor for sets, 2,000 costumes, an incredible archive on the world of theater, a storage and repair room for fabrics... and this place is also a story!
Currently, the Theatre offers workshops, language classes, participatory performances, shared meals, open stages, artist residencies, off-site events... Most of these events are free of charge.
A place of cultures for all, anchored in Belsunce, L'oeuvre reveals the richness of its territory and its inhabitants. Our ambition, on a daily basis, is to work on the meeting, the dialogue of thoughts, points of view and imaginary on the current stakes of society through a shared programming, participative and citizen approaches. Regularly, the Theater goes out of its walls, meets the inhabitants, by developing an inside/outside action: shared creations from life stories, storytelling evenings in the public and private spaces of the district, poetic wanderings... The creative moments are invented together and are woven together over time.
Created in 1937 by the association La Paix, this social and charitable theater was first located at 3 rue de Turenne. Destroyed by the creation of the A50 motorway, it came back to life in 1965 at 1, rue Mission de France, in an old shed of the Nouvelles Galeries, damaged by the fire of 1938! Today one of the last Italian-style theaters in Marseille and its 200 seats, it reopened its doors in October 2017.
