Place of experimentation and creation for the street arts.
The Cité des Arts de la Rue is a unique territory in Europe for experimentation and local and international development of the street arts, from creation to training, via a chain of skills, know-how and networks that play a decisive role in construction, distribution and cultural mediation.
The Cité des arts de la rue is managed by the Association pour la Cité des Arts de la Rue (ApCAR), which coordinates the collective work spaces, mediation and communication of the project on a metropolitan scale.
Perched on the plateau of the former L'Abeille oil and soap factories in the heart of Marseille's northern suburbs, La Cité des Arts de la Rue overlooks the city and claims to be a cultural territory on its outskirts.
Conceived as an immense 36,000 m2 stage laboratory with 11,000 m2 of buildings, 12,500 m2 of streets, squares, quays and as much scrubland, gardens and river, where shows and performances are built and tested, then performed in the public space.
It is organized around two national institutions:
- Lieux publics (Centre national de création, pilot of the IN SITU European network)
- FAI-AR (Formation Avancée et Itinérante des Arts de la Rue), the only program of its kind to prepare students for the profession of author-designer-director in the public arena.
The chain of competencies is also based on a series of complementary and decisive skills:
Creation, the very identity of Générik Vapeur (Trafic d'acteurs et d'engins, compagnie internationale).
Construction with Sud Side, Ateliers Spectaculaires (a workshop for the creation of spectacular constructions [performance/creation/transmission] and an associative motorcycle garage).
Distribution and development with Karwan (Bâtisseur de Projets Culturels Territoriaux Arts de la Rue & Arts du Cirque).
Cultural mediation with Lézarap'art (local cultural action group).
La Guinguette du midi is listed in the Marseille Gourmande guide.
