Freedom, prosperity, social progress and individual development are fundamental human values that can only be achieved by well-informed citizens who are able to exercise their democratic rights and play an active role in society (...).

The public library, the key to local knowledge, is an essential instrument for lifelong learning, independent decision-making and the cultural development of the individual and social groups.

From the UNESCO Manifesto on the Role of the Public Library.

The Bibliothèque de Marseille à Vocation Régionale (Marseille Regional Library) aims to promote access to the written word, images, sound and information and communication technologies for the general public.

Thus, it participates in the leisure, in the diffusion of information, in the research, in the education and in the culture of all, by respecting the diversity of the tastes and the choices.

It offers everyone the possibility to consult on site or to borrow at home the documents of their choice.

Its modern architecture and the transparency of the building offer passers-by a view of the library's activities, contributing to the animation and life of the Belsunce district.

The library offers nearly one million documents available for consultation (of which 350,000 are freely accessible) and valuable collections.

Its size (11,000 m² open to the public on a total surface area of 18,000 m²), the richness of its collections and its accessibility make the Alcazar one of the most complete places of research and study in the city.

Every month, a cultural program is offered.
