The 18th century building is situated on the site of a medieval chapel with the same name. In 1740 the construction of a new church was entrusted to the Tarasconnais master Antoine Damour, according to the plans of the architect Jean-Baptiste Franque.
The facade, in classical style, is made of Beaucaire stone.

The façade with its double lateral volutes is inspired in its composition by the Italian Baroque style: it combines elements borrowed from ancient architecture-two pilasters with Ionic capitals frame the main portal, which is surmounted by a triangular pediment-and refined, finely worked decorative motifs-garlands of plants punctuate the top of the façade and underline the curves of the imposing oculus pierced above the door. The dome that caps the transept crossing, of daring design, is a beautiful stereotomic work. The baldachin and the 18th century organs in Saint-Jacques come from the ursuline convent.
