Created in 1868, the Carro rescue station is located at the southwestern tip of the Côte Bleue.
Its geographical position makes it a strategic rescue station for maritime navigation between the Camargue, the entrance to the Gulf of Fos and Marseille.

It is one of the first stations established in the Mediterranean. Since its creation over 150 years ago, the station has carried out more than 3,300 rescues.
The SNSM station in Carro has an 18-meter Offshore Rescue Vessel (NSH1), enabling it to operate in all weather conditions.
Its mission is to provide free, volunteer rescue services to rescue people in danger at sea and along the coast.
The French National Sea Rescue Society (SNSM) is a national association governed by the 1901 Law, recognized as a public service organization, and fulfilling a public service mission in Metropolitan France and its overseas departments.
Throughout the year and during the summer season, 2,000 SNSM lifeguards monitor designated swimming areas along the coastline and in French inland waterways, as regulated by the mayor. They rescue swimmers in danger, assist users of beach equipment (pedal boats, windsurfing boards, inflatable boats, kitesurfers, small sailboats, etc.) in difficulty, administer first aid to accident victims, and alert emergency services, firefighters, or SAMU (Emergency Medical Service).
