In harmony with nature: Planting and visiting the Aïoli Caganis farm
Presentation
Accompanied by Christophe, you'll stroll along paths where every element seems to breathe in harmony with the surrounding environment. Here, there's no imposition, only guidance: every plant, every tree, every insect has its place and its role. Near the strawberry and vegetable fields, shelters suspended in the trees provide a haven for bats. "They feed on midges," explains Christophe in a soft voice, as if sharing a secret. The rustling of their wings, imagined in the foliage, evokes a natural ballet, orchestrated without a single chemical treatment.
On the paths swept by the mistral wind, artichokes raise their sturdy leaves to protect the crops. Further on, kiwis nestle among the lettuces, creating a surprising microclimate, while broad beans burrow into the earth, enriching the soil.
To the south of the farm, pistachio trees promote soil drainage, where earthworms create invisible tunnels, circulating water and life.
Biodiversity sings all around you: the buzzing of bees in the flowers, the soft clicking of insects in the hotels built for them, the stealthy slither of a hedgehog behind a wooden shelter.
In three years, the farm has grown from 5 to 11 bee species and from 5 to 8 bat species. Keen eyes sometimes spot Edwards's Psammodrome, Bonelli's Eagle soaring in the distance, or the delicate Bertolini's Ophrys blooming in the shade of the crops.
The visit concludes with a planting workshop: hands in the soil, the gesture becomes ritualistic, almost meditative.
And to end this experience, a delicious picnic awaits you, featuring farm products—seasonal pan bagnat, warm apple tart—which you savor while inhaling the still-warm aromas from the oven.
An experience to touch, smell, taste, and observe, leaving you with tangible skills and a new way of seeing nature, as if each detail had its own breath and its own voice.
