Presentation

Explore Martigues in a different way during the Rand’eau douce from Figuerolles to Tholon, a unique guided tour through the natural and historical riches of the town.
Your adventure begins at the Grand Parc de Figuerolles, a haven of Mediterranean nature where vestiges of the past still exist, witnesses of a bygone era. As you walk along the terraced path and Mediterranean gardens, you will discover the ancient hydraulic constructions and agricultural buildings that have shaped this unique landscape.

The walk also gives you the opportunity to explore the varied flora of the park, whose growth is closely linked to the surrounding water points. Species such as white poplar, ash and elderberry thrive in wetlands, while the proximity of the Etang de Berre influences the vegetation with its salty spray.

After following the banks of the Etang de Berre on a section of the famous GR2013, you will reach the archaeological site of Tholon. This emblematic place in Martigues, once used as a toll station for the supply of fresh water to ships, will transport you to another time. You will discover a magnificent washhouse, whose water came directly from the Tholon spring, and you will learn that this site was a strategic point for the navigators of the Berre pond.

The site of Tholon has a rich history, dating back to the Gallo-Roman period. Its name, derived from the Latin "Tholonium" which means guard post, underlines its defensive and utilitarian importance. The Tholon spring, located 1,400 meters from the village of Ferrières, was the main source of fresh water for the inhabitants and sailors.

In partnership with the Martégale Randonnée Ski Découverte (RSD) association, this 6 km hike takes you on the marked trails of the Grand Parc de Figuerolles, before reaching the archaeological site of Tholon. A captivating immersion in the history of fresh water and local heritage.
