Presentation

After Rome, Arles has the largest number of Roman remains. Of the 8 monuments in Arles listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Roman amphitheatre is undoubtedly the most emblematic.
Built in 90 AD, the Roman Amphitheatre is remarkable. The games could accommodate up to 21,000 spectators. With its circular inner and outer galleries, horizontal passageways and alternating staircases, the construction was ingenious. The building is also surprisingly large, measuring over 130m in length. It is the most visited monument in the city.

To make the most of your visit, we recommend buying a pass (available from our online ticket office), which will enable you to visit the city's various museums and monuments more economically. Guided tours, gladiator fights and Roman entertainment are included in the entrance ticket and take place during every school holiday. Cultural, sporting and bullfighting events also take place from Easter to the end of September

Please note that the amphitheatre is not easily accessible to people with reduced mobility. It is also subject to exceptional closures during festivals and events.
