The steep plateau accessible only from the south, so easy to defend, was inhabited from the neolithic until the end of the 14th century with a long interruption during the High Roman Empire (from the 1st to the beginning of the 4th century AD). The excavations undertaken by Henri Rolland in 1935 and continued after his death, brought to light eight archaeological layers. A beautiful Hellenistic rampart (2nd century BC) surmounted by the paleochristian wall, a Christian necropolis, the substructures of the St. Vincent-d'Ugium basilica ...

The Chapel St-Blaise is a Romanesque building of the twelfth century, restored in the thirteenth century and whose facade was redone in 1608. Surrounded by medieval tombs, it is preceded by the substructure of a church of the eleventh century. It occupies the site of the city of Castelveyre. The long wall, built in 1231 to protect it, now closes the field of excavations where the ruins of Ugium cover those of the ancient city.
