In the territory of the commune of Martigues, the Fort de Bouc rises its pink limestone walls at the mouth of the Caronte channel.

Since the middle ages, it has kept this passage between the Gulf of FOS and the Etang de Berre, halfway between Marseille and the Rhone. By its strategic position for maritime trade and control of the region, the Fort de Bouc has always had a dual function, both defensive and flagship work.

It has been registered as a historical monument since 6 January 1930.In 1993, the city of Martigues undertook the safeguarding and rehabilitation of the Fort de Bouc. After restoration work and for the first time in its millennial history, in 2007 the Fort de Bouc opened to the public, offering visitors a true journey through time. The Fort of Bouc is landlocked geographically in the facilities of the oil port of Lavéra. As a result, its attendance and use are subject to various specific constraints.
